Edwards is sure to be named in the T&T squad to face Cuba in Havana on August 20 in the semi-final round of the qualifying programme. And the CONCACAF World Cup qualifier is scheduled on an official FIFA date, which means Edwards must go if he is in the squad and is fit. The international fixture is sandwiched between Sunderland’s opening Premier League game against Liverpool at the Stadium of Light on August 16 and their trip to Spurs seven days later. It means that winger Edwards will be forced to make a 9000-mile round trip, with flights taking around 17 hours each way. If Edwards flew back the day after the game, he would be unlikely to be back in the UK until Friday — which is hardly the best preparation for the match at White Hart Lane the following day. Roy Keane has indicated in the past that he will look into the possibility of organising a private jet to bring his trans-Atlantic internationals home quicker and this is one instance when it would be hugely beneficial.
