Household Budget Survey launched in Trinidad & TobagoPlanning, Housing and Environment Minister Emily Gaynor Dick-Forde delivered the following address at the launch of the Household Budget Survey in Port of Spain on Friday. The Ministry of Planning, Housing and the Environment is pleased to once again launch another Household Budget Survey. In my address I will speak to the importance of this survey to the nation’s strategic plan for sustainable development by the year 2020. The plan we call Vision 2020. This Household Budget Survey 2008/2009 is the seventh such survey to be administered by the Central Statistical Office, a division of the Ministry of Planning Housing and the Environment. The first survey was conducted in 1957, a mere 5 years after the establishment of the CSO. The CSO has developed an expertise in the administration of this and other important surveys in T&T over the five decades of its existence. This year’s survey comes 10 years after the last HBS 1997/1998. The output from this survey feeds into many critical indicators and policy decisions for effective governance, and to assessing and meeting the needs of the most vulnerable in our society. Such a critical survey therefore needs to be administered with greater regularity. Internationally, the frequency is every five years, and in some cases every 2 years.
