SALT OF THE EARTH,
When Parang was born in Trinidad, workers in the cocoa plantations played the music as entertainment for their families and friends after a hard day's labour.
SALT OF THE EARTH explores this ancient music tradition called Parang and the ones who make it survive.
Sophie Meyer meets the Paranderos in their homes, follows them singing from house to house, at gigs and festivals and captures the essence of this aged-old tradition as well as its evolution through generations.
She uses the music from a variety of popular Parang bands to set the pace for the discovery of Trinidad's beauty, its history, its landscapes and its people. The film is an inspiring and uplifting story of folk musicians who open their hearts, share their memories and hopes.
